Corolla Area Guide

Discover the Wonders of OBX in Corolla

Located in the northern section of the Outer Banks, Corolla is prized for its more secluded atmosphere and upscale accommodations. Perfect for families
and large groups, our oceanfront Corolla vacation rentals offer convenient access to Corolla Beach. Staying in Corolla isn’t completely secluded, you are still close to local restaurants, historic sites, and there are plenty of activities for a variety of ages.

Voted as one of the best beaches in the Outer Banks, many of our Corolla Oceanfront homes are just a private walkway or sandy path to the beach! You can spend the day splashing in the surf, building sandcastles or reading a book. Then retreat to our private vacation rental pool or watch the sunset from the deck.

Something else that makes this area entirely unique by adding to the natural ambiance  - the wild horses of Currituck. You’ll see them walking the beach but be sure to view them from afar so as not to disturb them and never feed them.  Observe these majestic horses from your deck or car.   Beautiful!

This section of the Outer Banks is also known for the Carova 4x4 beach, just to the North of Corolla. This off-road area is  definitely a “know before you go” so we encourage you to sign up with a tour company and to watch the tide.

Things to Do in Corolla

Preserving history has long been of major importance to the Corolla Community.  The stories abound in the 21,000 sq.ft. Whalehead mansion sitting on 39 acres along the Currituck Sound. Call ahead to verify the times and tour availability. Some of the tours are themed like the daylight tour, a candlelight tour, a ghost tour, and even a fun children’s tour showing what life was like as a child growing up in the mansion.

The popular Outer Banks Center for Wildlife Education is enjoyable for kids and adults alike.  They provide education about the natural and cultural history of the Outer Banks.  You’ll see a nautical village, vintage pictures, and the kids always want to see “Banks the Bear” a favorite stop! Admission is FREE but you are welcome to leave a donation if you so wish and after visiting, we think you will want to contribute.

Corolla also has fun activities such as golf courses, bumper cars, mini-golf courses, water sports rentals, jet ski tours, fishing, and boat charters. At days end you'll have new stories to tell.

Lighthouse Aficionados!
We know many of you collect lighthouses and the Outer Banks' are the most iconic!

The Currituck Beach Lighthouse was the last brick and mortar built in North Carolina, left unpainted you can see the red bricks reaching up to the sky from where it stands in the historic Corolla Village. When open, you can climb to the top on your own.
